Starting From a Son in Law to Build a Long Lasting Family
Chapter 398: End of the book
Now that I’ve reached the Core Formation stage, it marks the start of a new volume, so let me say a few words.
First, I’d like to thank all of you, my esteemed readers, for your support.
Without your support, this book probably wouldn’t exist.
Especially those of you who have been following since the beginning, consistently voting and commenting, I’m truly grateful! Thank you for your support and love!
Looking back at this volume, I’m not sure how to evaluate it myself.
When I wrote the Foundation Establishment thoughts, I was thinking about one realm every 500,000 words, reaching Core Formation at one million words, leveling up quickly.
But as I wrote, I thought about reaching Core Formation before 1.5 million words, then 1.7 million words…
And then…
If I hadn’t cut a bunch of plotlines, I felt like I was heading towards 2.5 million words.
The reason is the same old problem.
My thinking is too scattered!
Outlines, detailed outlines, it’s all about improvising, writing whatever comes to mind, dropping hooks all the time, always thinking about branching storylines.
As soon as Lu Changsheng goes out, I think about a bunch of plots about picking up girls or meeting girls.
Whenever the family or children pop up, I want to write something, which seriously drags down the progress.
So, considering the progress, I suppressed all these ideas and plots later on, deleting some, postponing others, and streamlining everything.
Although many readers still find it slow and dragging, there’s nothing I can do about it.
Everyone has different writing ideas and approaches. If you ask me to write about becoming a Dao Ancestor at the start, reaching the Nascent Soul stage in 100 chapters, and ascending in 200 chapters, I really can’t do it.
Moreover, when I write, I don’t even think about cultivation realms.
Even now, I still think that having enough strength is enough.
And I personally don’t like changing maps too much.
Changing maps means a new and unfamiliar environment, surrounded by enemies. The sense of security that was so hard to build is gone. A lone wolf protagonist can still run, but where can a family run to?
So, in my vision, Azure Lake Mountain will continue to grow, spread throughout the entire Jiang Kingdom, and become the center of the Southern Wilderness.
Isn’t this quite suitable for a farming novel?
The outside world can fight and make noise, but Azure Lake Mountain turns a deaf ear to it all, developing steadily. A hundred years pass in a flash, countless forces rise and fall, and the Lu family of Azure Lake Mountain has unknowingly grown into a behemoth, a top-tier force.
Of course, through everyone’s comments, I’ve also realized the problem with this writing style.
Most people who follow a book want to finish it.
And in Xianxia novels, realm levels represent growth and progress.
If you’ve been reading for so long and are still stuck in the Qi Refining and Foundation Establishment stages, it’s indeed boring and uninteresting.
So, I’m also trying to speed up this aspect of the progress as much as possible, and adapt myself to the online novel writing style.
It’s just that the basic tone of the early stages has already been set, and there’s really no way to achieve it overnight.
As for what kind of closed-door cultivation for many years, breaking through in the blink of an eye, in my opinion, that belongs to the outline escape writing style. There are many fast-paced books like that on Qidian, and they don’t need another one from me.
Speaking of which, let’s take this opportunity to talk about this book.
Some readers have mentioned things like plot, story, growth, and core.
To be honest, I really don’t understand these things. After thinking about it deeply, I feel confused and nihilistic.
Even now that I’ve written nearly two million words, I still have no concept of writing novels. I don’t understand what plot or story is, I just know that the protagonist is doing things, and that the things he does shouldn’t be brain-dead and should have some refreshing points.
Some readers may think that I’m writing about trivial things all day long, stuck in a small place with no progress at all. They may ask, ‘Is this really doing something? Is there anything refreshing about this? Isn’t this just pure water to scam money?’
The title of the book is “Starting a Long-Life Family from Being a Live-in Son-in-Law.” Now that I think about it, perhaps “Starting a Long-Life Family from Marrying and Having Children” would be more appropriate.
Because this book is very simple. The whole process revolves around marrying, having children, and building a long-life family.
There’s no need to say much about marrying.
Lu Changsheng grows from being a live-in son-in-law, step by step. In terms of wives and concubines, from mortals to cultivators, and then righteous immortal maidens, demonic enchantresses,妖族圣女 (demon saintesses), peerless goddesses, imperial empresses, immortal dynasty princesses, and so on.
In this process, the protagonist gains the favor of immortal maidens and goddesses, from acquaintance to establishing a relationship, to having children.
Of course, there is also the development of the early wives and concubines, turning them into immortal maidens and goddesses admired, revered, and envied by countless cultivators.
As for the children, Lu Changsheng gains rewards and improvements through their talents and growth, achieving growth in a lying-flat style.
Then, he uses his own strength and the system rewards he obtains to cultivate his children, forming a closed loop.
In this process, the children’s growth, their worship and reverence for their father, Lu Changsheng, their showing off in the outside world, and their bringing fame to the family.
Even the troubles that they cause for the family, in my opinion, are all part of the plot and refreshing points.
As for the long-life family.
Although this is a mortal-style family farming novel, it is different from most family farming novels.
Most Xianxia family farming novels mainly earn cultivation resources by planting, mining resources, fighting for territory, or commercializing, refining pills, refining weapons, making talismans, etc., developing the family’s power, improving the strength of family members, and then constantly rising and crushing one force after another.
When I wrote about establishing Azure Lake Mountain, I also understood it this way.
But after writing a few chapters, I was constantly criticized for being watery, and after thinking deeply, I realized that something was wrong.
With the system, it’s indeed boring to spend time writing about this aspect.
The protagonist’s family farming is actually about marrying, having children, and the children growing up.
This family, to put it bluntly, is the community and derivative product of the protagonist and his wives and children. There’s no need to spend too much time on it, mainly writing about the daily life of a large family.
This is also the tone of the book.
No need to work hard, no need to be exhausted, not so many conspiracies and intrigues, no mutual deception and killing.
The main focus is on a warm, leisurely, and comfortable family growth.
Even if there is danger, it is within a controllable range. (This is unavoidable, there can’t be no conflicts in writing a novel.)
So, in my opinion, the daily plots of the protagonist and his wives and children are not watery at all. It’s just that I’m not good at writing them, and I can’t write content that is bland but makes people smile.
Moreover, the overall environment of the cultivation world tends to be the law of the jungle, where everyone is fighting, killing, and plundering.
The Lu family’s warm and peaceful, happy family, and ordinary life with small joys, where the protagonist enjoys the admiration and worship of his wives and children, satisfying his male chauvinistic behavior, isn’t this interesting and refreshing?
As for life and death separations, they will happen, but they are unavoidable, but I will try to downplay them and not write anything sentimental.
After all, being too realistic can easily lead to a sentimental state, and why should a silly novel make people sad?
Okay, let’s get back to the topic.
There’s not much to say about the Core Formation volume.
The overall content still continues the three points mentioned above.
As for what kind of Core Formation ceremony that shocked the Jiang Kingdom, breaking the immortal cultivation world’s ten-thousand-year Core Formation record, countless immortal maidens and goddesses admiring him and throwing themselves into his arms, single-handedly crushing the three major Core Formation families, coercing the Heavenly Sword Sect, shocking the various kingdoms. The beast tide strikes, holding the ancient beast-controlling talisman, all beasts submit, and the ten-thousand-demon queen surrenders. The demonic path invades, sacrificing the common people with blood, the master of Azure Lake Mountain and the nine sons of the Lu family suppress the demonic tribulation, end the turmoil, and become famous in the Southern Wilderness, etc., all these plots are not there.
It’s just that the protagonist will finally go out, temporarily acting as a lone wolf. If he doesn’t go out, there won’t be any new girls.
Then, there will be slightly more writing about the children’s plots.
In fact, since the Violet Nether Secret Realm, I wanted to write about the group portrait of the children and increase the amount of writing in this area.
But in order to improve the pace, I deleted all of this, and next, I will definitely write in this direction. Only writing about the protagonist is equivalent to cutting off all the children’s family lines.
I was reported a while ago, which led to not writing much about the harem. If I cut off the children’s line again, it would be a waste.
But don’t worry, I can still distinguish between the main and secondary points.
All the children’s plot lines are just branches of the protagonist’s big tree. No matter how they grow, they will eventually return to the protagonist, and will not form multiple protagonists.
Of course, if you have any questions or suggestions, you are welcome to bring them up.
For example, the weight ratio of the harem, children, and daily life.
The main idea is to listen to advice and eat your fill.
I am very willing to answer and explain my writing ideas and general thoughts to everyone’s questions.
But I hope there will be less scolding. After all, there will be many different opinions and viewpoints in life, let alone a novel.
Some settings and plots will definitely cause dislikes, and it is impossible for everyone to like them.
If you are really unhappy, just scold me in the chapter comments. Bad reviews in the book review area will affect the perception of new readers. Sometimes I think about deleting them, but if I delete them, I might be scolded again. If I ban them, I will become a power-abusing dog. It’s really quite a headache, please understand a little.
That’s it, thank you!! !! !! (It only takes half an hour to write these, without using my brain)
Happy New Year in advance to everyone orz!
