Beast Taming: Starting From Zero
Chapter 878: My fate! Here I come! (Two in one)
The Flight Tournament is a competition only for Yu Beast Masters with Flying-type Pets.
It features various events that Flying-type Pets can participate in, such as aerial combat, aerial relay, and aerial racing.
The prizes for each event are very generous and are specifically set for Flying-type Pets, attracting many Flying-type Yu Beast Masters, many of whom have traveled specially from other provinces and cities.
Qiao Sang sat on Ya! and followed the navigation, Flying through the air. Along the way, she saw many Flying-type Pets she had never seen before, all Flying in the same direction.
After Flying for another ten minutes, a venue built with technology, futurism, and dynamism, resembling an interstellar battleship, appeared above the white clouds.
Compared to the previous air traffic control center, the architecture here was clearly more distinctive.
Ya! landed on the white clouds outside the venue.
Qiao Sang dismounted.
Many people’s gazes converged.
The appearance of Ya! was still exceptionally striking among the various forms of Flying-type Pets.
Qiao Sang scanned her surroundings. Usually at high altitudes, most people wore oxygen masks, but now, at the Flight Tournament, aside from some visibly younger individuals, almost no one wore them. Clearly, due to the feedback from their Flying-type Pets and long-term high-altitude training, they had adapted to high altitudes.
She then thought of something, turned to Ya!, and asked,
“At this distance, can you still control your clones?”
“Ya! Ya!”
Ya! sighed, indicating that she could, but the number had significantly decreased.
“It’s fine. Being able to control your clones for training at this distance is already very good,” Qiao Sang comforted her.
The Flight Tournament venue was a full ten thousand meters above the ground. For Ya! to still be able to control her clones within the Yu Beast Center already exceeded the standard of an ordinary General-level Pet.
“Tell me when you need energy recovery agents,” Qiao Sang said.
“Ya!”
Ya! nodded, indicating understanding.
First, I need to contact the person in charge… Qiao Sang pulled out her phone, preparing to dial the phone number provided in the assessment task information.
Just then, a sweet voice beside her spoke: “Hello, are you here for the Flight Tournament?”
Qiao Sang looked over and saw a woman who appeared to be in her twenties, with black hair and brown eyes, and soft features.
Beside her stood a bird-type Pet, about five meters in size, mostly cream-colored, with yellow feathers on either side of its head and a tuft of green in the middle, and blue tips on its tail and wings.
A Feathered Crane Eagle, a Flying-type General-level Pet, with exceptional vision, capable of spotting fish in the water even from a thousand meters high to hunt… Information about the Pet flashed through Qiao Sang’s mind, and she replied,
“I am not.”
Surprise flashed in the woman’s eyes, then she looked at Ya!, thought of something, and realized, “I almost forgot, only Pets whose main attribute is Flying-type can participate in the Flight Tournament.”
Then, she changed the subject and asked,
“May I ask what your Pet is called?”
As expected, she’s here for Ya!… Qiao Sang thought to herself.
Every time a stranger approached her, it was almost always to ask about Ya! and the others; she was already used to it.
“It’s called Flame Qilu,” Qiao Sang said.
Flame Qilu… The woman silently repeated the three words, then smiled and introduced herself: “My name is Fang Lan, and this is Feathered Crane Eagle.”
“Feather Feather.”
Feathered Crane Eagle chirped, as if greeting.
“My name is Qiao Sang.”
“Oh, what’s your Flying-type Pet called?” Fang Lan’s eyes lit up when she saw Steel Treasure nearby, and she asked.
“It’s called Steel Sword Falcon,” Qiao Sang said.
“Its level isn’t low, is it?” Fang Lan scrutinized Steel Treasure up and down several times, then noticed the miniature shrinking bracelet on its claw, and couldn’t help but ask curiously,
“Why aren’t you signing up for the Flight Tournament? I remember there’s no threshold for this competition; anyone with a Flying-type Pet can sign up, and some individual events only require a certain number of Flying-type Pets.”
“I’m here for something else,” Qiao Sang casually asked, “Are you here to compete?”
“I am not,” Fang Lan said, “I’m also here for something else.”
The scene fell silent for a moment.
How awkward, I don’t know what to talk about… Qiao Sang picked up her phone: “Then I’ll continue my call.”
“Alright, alright, you go ahead,” Fang Lan quickly said.
After speaking, she left with Feathered Crane Eagle.
Qiao Sang dialed the person in charge’s number.
“Beep beep beep~”
The phone rang for a full half-minute before it connected, and a stern voice came from the speaker: “Who is it?”
“Hello, I’ve accepted an assessment task to maintain order at the Flight Tournament. I’m not sure where to go after entering,” Qiao Sang stated her purpose directly.
“Where are you now?” the person in charge asked.
“I’m at Entrance 7 of the venue,” Qiao Sang replied, looking at a nearby sign.
“Then enter through Entrance 7, and just show the stamp on your assessment task materials to the ticket checker, and they will let you in,” the person in charge said methodically,
“Once inside, just keep turning left, and you’ll see the Special Operations Room.”
“Understood.” Qiao Sang hung up the phone.
Following the route given by the person in charge, she smoothly entered the interior and arrived at the Special Operations Room.
There were many people and Pets standing inside.
As soon as Qiao Sang entered, the first person she saw was Fang Lan, who had approached her earlier.
Unlike before, she was now wearing the uniform of a special operations officer.
Fang Lan also saw Qiao Sang, and surprise flashed in her eyes.
“You are?” A man in a black suit with a buzz cut walked over.
From his stern voice, it was not difficult to tell that he was the person in charge who had answered the phone earlier.
“My name is Qiao Sang, and I’ve accepted an assessment task to be responsible for order,” Qiao Sang said, “I just spoke with you on the phone.”
The person in charge looked at her in surprise, thinking to himself that she looked incredibly young, like a minor…
Before he could speak, Fang Lan rushed over first, looking utterly astonished: “You actually accepted an assessment task? Are you going to participate in the Regional Competition?”
So we’re working on the same thing, but why did we separate at the same time, and you’re so fast you’ve already changed into your uniform… Qiao Sang looked at her, complaining internally, while calmly saying “Mm.”
“Do you two know each other?” the person in charge asked.
“We chatted for a bit outside the venue,” Fang Lan said with a complex expression.
“Since you two know each other, then you’ll be responsible for the same area,” the person in charge offered a favor, musing, “Let’s make it B Zone.”
Those who can sign up for the Regional Competition are at least C-level Beastmasters. These two look very young, and no one knows if they will become famous in the Regional Competition in the future.
…
Five minutes later.
Above B Zone.
“I didn’t expect you to also sign up for this year’s Regional Competition,” Fang Lan, sitting on Feathered Crane Eagle, actively broke the silence and spoke.
Also? Qiao Sang pondered for a moment, then asked, “Are you also here because of an assessment task?”
Fang Lan hummed, “I accepted this assessment task a month ago, and thinking the time was almost up, I rushed over from Tianyi City yesterday.”
After speaking, she looked over with an incredibly complex expression:
“You don’t look like you’re old enough to participate in the Regional Competition.”
Qiao Sang blurted out: “Neither do you.”
Fang Lan paused for a moment, then an uncontrollable smile spread across her face: “I’m 32.”
Qiao Sang glanced at her, her tone sincere: “You really don’t look it.”
At these words, Fang Lan’s favorability towards Qiao Sang instantly soared. She coughed and asked,
“How many of your assessment tasks have you completed?”
“Including this one, it’s four,” Qiao Sang did not hide it.
Only four… Given her goodwill, Fang Lan consoled her: “You look even younger than me. It’s already very good to be qualified to sign up for the Regional Competition. When I first signed up for the Regional Competition, after a year, I struggled to complete only nine tasks and ultimately didn’t get formal competition qualifications. The second time I signed up, I did complete all the tasks, but I was eliminated after only one match in the preliminary round. This is my third time signing up for the Regional Competition.”
Almost seven months have passed, and with the Yongtian City task, she’s only completed four. With such slow efficiency, it’s highly unlikely they’ll meet in this Regional Competition… Fang Lan thought, and her gaze towards Qiao Sang softened considerably.
She saw her past self in the other person.
This experience is so tragic… Qiao Sang sympathized with the other person for 0.1 seconds, then comforted her:
“You’ll definitely achieve better results this time than last time.”
Fang Lan subconsciously replied, “Thank you.”
After saying it, she paused, feeling that something was not quite right.
Just as Fang Lan was about to say something more, fireworks exploded densely in the sky.
Various Flying-type Pets swiftly passed through under the dazzling fireworks.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 654th Flight Tournament!” The Host, standing on a white Flying-type Pet high above the center of the arena, spoke passionately into a microphone.
Cheers erupted endlessly.
Qiao Sang, above B Zone, looked at the scene before her and felt a different kind of sensation.
Honestly, the feeling of being a competitor and a spectator truly is different.
“Steel Sword…”
Steel Treasure stared blankly at the Flying-type Pets trailing various light trails high in the sky.
“Do you want to participate?” Qiao Sang noticed Steel Treasure had been continuously watching these Flying-type Pets, and asked.
“Steel Sword.” Steel Treasure chirped, indicating that it had just never seen such a scene.
“You’ll see it often in the future,” Qiao Sang said.
The path of a Professional Beast Tamer involves participating in various competitions, striving step by step towards higher-level events.
The events encountered in the future will only be grander than this.
“Steel Sword.”
Upon hearing this, Steel Treasure’s eyes flickered with longing, but it quickly returned to calmness.
“Actually, if we hadn’t taken on this assessment task, we could both participate and watch,” Fang Lan, who had overheard the conversation, suddenly lamented, “I heard that this time’s prizes are very suitable for Flying-type Pets, and among them, the prizes for aerial racing and aerial relay have even reached A-level.”
A-level? Qiao Sang didn’t react much after hearing that.
Xiao Xunbao’s ring now held a pile of A-level resources.
The competition quickly began.
The first event was Flight Obstacle Course.
This was a 50-kilometer aerial flight obstacle crossing competition.
The organizers would set up more than 20 obstacles on a fixed flight path, which Flying-type Pets could pass through using any skill.
Starting from the Flight Tournament venue’s starting point, the entire process would be live-streamed. The first Flying-type Pet to cross all obstacles and complete the route back would win.
Throughout the entire process, Yu Beast Masters would ride on their Pets, Flying and crossing together.
At the referee’s command, all the Pets at the starting line almost instantly transformed into streaks of light and shot forward, disappearing from sight.
Only a few individual Flying-type Pets remained, flapping their wings and Flying strenuously, with their Yu Beast Masters even wearing oxygen masks.
Qiao Sang, high above B Zone, leisurely watched the live broadcast on the giant virtual screen.
Then she thought of something and asked,
“Ya!, do you want an energy recovery agent?”
“Ya!”
Ya! nodded.
“Xiao Xunbao~”
Before Qiao Sang could speak, Xiao Xunbao appeared, took off her ring, and skillfully pulled out an energy recovery agent from inside, handing it to Ya!.
Xiao Xunbao’s sudden appearance startled Fang Lan and Feathered Crane Eagle.
Although Ghost-type Pets can become invisible, when a Pet’s level reaches a certain degree, it can sense unfamiliar auras nearby, even from invisible Ghost-type Pets.
However, Feathered Crane Eagle had not sensed anything just now, indicating that the Ghost-type Pet in front of them was definitely no weaker than Feathered Crane Eagle.
Fortunately, the other party’s task completion efficiency isn’t high, otherwise this year’s Regional Competition would likely have another formidable opponent… Fang Lan looked at Xiao Xunbao, then at Ya! and Steel Treasure, feeling a sudden surge of emotion, then thought of something and asked,
“You’re not from our Mid-Air region, are you?”
Qiao Sang hummed, “I’m from the Yuhua region.”
“Have you already participated in your region’s Regional Competition?” Fang Lan continued to ask.
Generally speaking, Yu Beast Masters who participate in other Regional Competitions will first participate in their own region’s Regional Competition.
“No,” Qiao Sang answered every question, “This is my first time participating in a Regional Competition.”
Fang Lan was silent for a few seconds: “Why are you participating in the Mid-Air region’s Regional Competition for your first time?”
Qiao Sang pondered for a moment, then said,
“Because I feel I have a connection with this region.”
Fang Lan: “???”
Suddenly, a voice came through the intercom:
“A Saw-Sound Dragon has appeared on the Flight Obstacle Course, with no Yu Beast Master in sight. Who will go and get it to move away from the track? The leading participant is expected to pass by there in about ten minutes.”
Saw-Sound Dragon? Qiao Sang said nothing.
Whoever wants to go, goes.
She would stick to her B Zone.
Fang Lan frowned slightly and said, “A Saw-Sound Dragon is a King-level Dragon-type Pet Beast, and its Yu Beast Master isn’t nearby. Who would dare go and tell it to move? I think we can only wait for it to leave on its own.”
King-level Dragon-type Pet Beast… Qiao Sang’s heart stirred. She pulled out her phone, opened her browser, and typed “Saw-Sound Dragon” into the search bar.
Soon, the page refreshed.
Relevant information popped up, including pictures.
Huge ears, a circle of saw-like patterns on its neck, a pair of enormous purple wings with serrated edges, a spiraling horn on its head, and two sharp fangs visible on its lower jaw.
Serrated, horn… The Pet on the phone screen gradually completely overlapped with the Dragon-type Pet Beast in her dream whose specific outline she could never quite make out. At this moment, Qiao Sang heard her own strong heartbeat.
“Is anyone going?” The voice from the intercom sounded again.
All the special operations personnel maintaining order at high altitude heard this voice.
Immediately after, another voice sounded:
“I’m going!”
“Are you crazy!” Fang Lan was stunned when she heard Qiao Sang say “I’m going,” and couldn’t help but say in a hushed voice, “This is a King-level Dragon-type Pet Beast. It’s okay if you don’t go. For such a large event, the organizers will always have other ways to solve it.”
“I’m not crazy,” Qiao Sang said with firm eyes, “My task is to maintain order.”
Fang Lan: “…”
She really is crazy…
“Xiao Xunbao, move along the track!” Qiao Sang said, suppressing her excitement.
My connection! I’m coming!
“Xiao Xunbao~”
Xiao Xunbao’s eyes glowed blue.
The next second, Qiao Sang disappeared from her original spot.
