Beast Taming: Starting From Zero
Chapter 5: Beast Control Code
A minute passed.
Her mother’s voice was a few decibels louder than usual, but her facial expression was calm: “I’m going to the restroom.”
The Staff said, “Turn left ahead, go to the end, then turn right, and you’ll see it.”
Her mother nodded, lifted her leg, and started walking to the right.
“Ma’am, it’s to the left,” the Staff reminded her.
Her mother’s back stiffened for a moment, then she turned to the left as if nothing had happened.
This made Qiao Sang a little exasperated, and she controlled the upward curve of her lips.
Mom, your persona as a strong, independent woman has crumbled.
She turned her head to look at the Fire Fang Dogs, her thoughts returning to them.
Qiao Sang noticed that the Fire Fang Dogs were active and full of energy; not a single one was staying still.
It really wasn’t without reason that new Yu Beast Masters chose Little Chubby Dove as their first Pet…
Qiao Sang couldn’t help but ask, “Are there any Fire Fang Dogs with a quieter disposition?”
The Staff tactfully replied, “Actually, our base also has many other Pets.”
Qiao Sang understood instantly.
After all, her soul was that of an adult; even without experience in taming beasts, she didn’t think she would be helpless against an unruly Pet like a 15-year-old child.
Since that was the case, she decided to ignore temperament and simply choose a Fire Fang Dog that caught her eye.
“Can I see that one?”
Qiao Sang noticed that the Fire Fang Dog had been repeatedly crashing into a tree, not in a reckless way, but with deliberate, purposeful impacts.
Qiao Sang felt that its target wasn’t the tree; it was itself.
After all, who would foolishly and aimlessly crash into a tree?
“Of course,” the Staff replied.
“Dudu!” She picked up the iron whistle hanging on her chest and blew into it, producing a piercing sound.
All the Fire Fang Dogs stopped their actions, their attention completely focused, no longer causing damage.
A few Fire Fang Dogs tilted their heads.
“Woof?”
Is it mealtime?
With no flames obstructing her, the Staff walked into the Fire Fang Dog base and picked up the chosen Fire Fang Dog.
“Woof?”
The Fire Fang Dog blinked its confused eyes, and its flame-like, prominent ears twitched.
The Fire Fang Dog was placed in front of Qiao Sang.
The Fire Fang Dog is a small canine Pet with fiery red fur accompanied by several black stripes, and a tuft of orange-red short fur on its head.
The Fire Fang Dog in front of her was about 60 centimeters tall, noticeably smaller than the other Fire Fang Dogs, and had fresh marks on its forehead from the recent impacts. Its black pupils looked at her with a wet, pleading gaze, creating an urge to reach out and Pet it.
It didn’t seem as fiery as the other Fire Fang Dogs; instead, it looked a bit pitiful.
Qiao Sang’s mind automatically conjured a tragic story: a weak Fire Fang Dog being ostracized, its food stolen, leading to malnutrition, and finally, desperately training.
It must have been practicing some special skill by hitting the tree earlier.
Like Flame Impact or something similar.
The Staff introduced, “This Fire Fang Dog is the youngest one we have here at the base; it’s less than a month old.”
So it wasn’t weak, it was just young…
But being young was good; many Yu Beast Masters choose to raise Pets from when they are still eggs, as this method often makes it easier to build affection and rapport with the Pet.
Qiao Sang had previously considered buying a young beast egg, but she quickly dismissed the idea.
After all, she was still attending school and couldn’t bring an egg to school; it would be both conspicuous and unsafe.
If she left it at home, her mother would be out working, and she wouldn’t feel at ease with no one to look after it.
Qiao Sang squatted down and reached out to stroke the Fire Fang Dog’s head.
The Fire Fang Dog comfortably squinted its eyes, and its red tail unconsciously wagged.
It looked quite well-behaved.
Qiao Sang felt the soft fur in her hand for a while, growing even more satisfied.
She gazed into the Fire Fang Dog’s eyes and smiled, “Will you come with me?”
The Staff’s expression was a little strange; this Fire Fang Dog had a terrible temper, acting recklessly because of its young age, constantly picking fights with other Fire Fang Dogs for no reason.
The older Fire Fang Dogs, seeing that it had just been born and couldn’t even use the Spark skill, with its claws not fully developed, would just let it fuss, as its attacks didn’t hurt or bother them.
Sometimes, they would even play along, pretending to be defeated, making it think no one could beat it, and it became increasingly arrogant.
As a professional receptionist, she had the discernment to know what kind of Pet a customer wanted and what their needs were.
This girl clearly wanted a Fire Fang Dog with a quieter temperament.
Should she warn her…?
There were no good-tempered Fire Fang Dogs at this base.
She thought about the commission from one Fire Fang Dog, then about her son’s school district housing, and in the end, she remained silent.
Go?
The Fire Fang Dog naturally knew what that meant.
To go or not to go?
Of course, it had to go; it had no opponents here anymore, and this human’s hand felt very comfortable stroking it…
It seemed it was time to go out and find new opponents!
“Woof!”
The Fire Fang Dog nodded solemnly and extended its chubby paw.
Qiao Sang was slightly stunned, then she clasped it.
This was much smoother than she had imagined…
One human and one dog thus reached an agreement.
…
The contract between humans and extraordinary creatures is established through the power of the yu beast codex.
The yu beast codex acts as a medium, closely connecting the relationship between the two; generally speaking, for a contract to succeed, both parties must be willing.
However, it is also possible to form a contract after thoroughly defeating an extraordinary creature, when it is off guard.
The latter carries many hidden dangers; without sufficient intimacy, the Pet can easily become disobedient, and only high-level Yu Beast Masters don’t worry about this.
As long as the Yu Beast Master’s brain domain is developed enough, and the yu beast codex is stronger, even if the Pet suffers a backlash, it cannot break the contract.
Qiao Sang was currently connecting her consciousness to her brain domain.
The yu beast codex in her brain domain was quietly staying still, like an ultra-thin envelope, containing only a blank page, although it was called the yu beast codex.
Qiao Sang had read in books that when the yu beast codex first awakens, it is white, and it only has one contract space to contract a Pet.
Once the brain domain develops to 10%, the yu beast codex will awaken into gray, and its contract space will also be able to become two pages.
Following the gesture for activating the yu beast codex from her memory, Qiao Sang formed a hand seal in front of her.
Soon, the yu beast codex activated in her brain domain, slowly opening to its single page.
A faint white light slowly gathered from all directions above the Fire Fang Dog’s head, gradually forming a small circular star array.
Actually, there’s another simple way to distinguish the level of a Yu Beast Master: whether it’s for contracting or summoning, you just need to look at the light appearing on the Pet.
Just like the yu beast codex, whatever color it is, the star array summoned by the Pet will be that same color.
However, this can only be used as a reference, because even if an ordinary person’s yu beast codex awakens again, without a Pet of corresponding strength, they still won’t pass the Beast Tamer Alliance’s Yu Beast Master level assessment.
The light of the star array covered the Fire Fang Dog’s head; it curiously looked up at the star array and did not resist.
