Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 336: Fantasy Beasts

Qiao Sang’s body suddenly stiffened, and she slowly turned her head.

Zhang Rongtang’s eyes swept over and met hers. The corner of his mouth curved into a smile, but it gave off a completely different feeling from the amiable uncle image he had just presented.

A chill rose from her tailbone, shooting straight to the crown of her head. Qiao Sang was like a startled cat; a national expletive slipped out, and she quickly jumped back a large step.

She wasn’t scared by the man who suddenly appeared, but rather by the over 4-meter-tall Pet standing beside him.

Pets aren’t scary, and Ghost-type Pets aren’t scary, but in this environment, suddenly seeing a large Ghost-type Pet whose body color almost blended with the night, with blood-red eyes staring at you, then smiling and drooling—that’s terrifying!

Just that one glance nearly made Qiao Sang pass out on the spot.

What kind of entrance was that?!

And if you’re going to smile, just smile! Why are you looking at me and drooling?!

Perhaps Qiao Sang’s fright was too obvious; the Ghost-type Pet with blood-red eyes gave a “slurp” and sucked back the drool that was about to reach its chin.

Qiao Sang: “!!!”

Because Wu Chang frequently visited the cemetery, he had developed resistance to the terrifying effects amplified by the environment. He wasn’t as startled as Qiao Sang and Ya!

He looked at Zhang Rongtang, who had returned, and the over 4-meter-tall Pet, then combined it with the phrase he had just heard, “Praying Luck La, I’ve finally waited for you.” Confused thoughts, mixed with panic and bewilderment, flashed through his mind.

Wu Chang wasn’t stupid.

“Uncle Zhang, why are you back?” He forced a smile that was uglier than crying. “And why is there a Hu Shuo Evil Spirit standing next to you?”

Although he had a guess, Wu Chang didn’t want to believe this reality. He wanted Uncle Zhang to tell him personally.

As long as Uncle Zhang spoke, no matter what he said, he believed he would be willing to trust him.

Before, he always felt like he was an extra person. His parents tossed him around like a football. He couldn’t understand why his parents had given birth to him.

His grandfather was old and lived alone in Qiao Sang’s Old Home. Although he was very good to him, he always felt that his grandfather kept him more out of a desire for companionship.

That person could be Wu Yi, Wu Er, Wu San, Wu Si; it didn’t necessarily have to be Wu Chang.

Later, he met Uncle Zhang.

Just like all fathers in the world, he would ride his bicycle to take him fishing, would immediately notice when he was unwell and take him to the hospital, would give him advice when choosing a Pet, and would even supervise him with his homework.

Every time he returned home, he was greeted by the fragrant smell of food.

He always remembered the first time he met Uncle Zhang, who smiled and said, “Child, your bangs are too long. You should cut them, or they’ll be bad for your eyes.”

Uncle Zhang’s appearance finally made him feel like he wasn’t an extra person anymore.

For a long time, he wondered why he wasn’t Uncle Zhang’s son.

How could such an Uncle Zhang be fake?

Wu Chang looked at Zhang Rongtang, his eyes shining with hope.

His answer was a circular device made of transparent material, descending from the sky.

The device landed, perfectly encasing Praying Luck La, and then the opening automatically sealed at a visible speed.

Immediately after, a “whoosh” sound sliced through the air above them. A Zhuang Tong Flying Owl, like a cannonball fired from a barrel, plunged down and used its sharp claws to grab the device containing Praying Luck La.

The Zhuang Tong Flying Owl did not fly away, but instead flapped its wings and hovered next to Zhang Rongtang.

“Yunyun!” Praying Luck La, covered in white chiffon fabric, continuously struck and attacked the transparent device, yet the device remained perfectly intact, without a single crack appearing.

“I originally didn’t want to act in front of you,” Zhang Rongtang said lightly. “But you brought a child with a Ghost-type Pet.”

He glanced at the innocent little Qunbao and continued, “It must have seen the Hu Shuo Evil Spirit next to me. I had no choice.”

“Qun?!” Little Qunbao, startled by the gaze, showed a bewildered expression and pointed to itself with its short toes.

This was its fault too?!

Although Zhang Rongtang didn’t answer his question, it was no different from an answer. Wu Chang’s eyes immediately turned red. He tried hard to hold back his tears and asked, “Uncle Zhang, why are you capturing it?”

What else could it be for! To make a contract! Qiao Sang roared the answer internally.

Please!

This is Praying Luck La!

Praying Luck La, you know! A legendary Illusion Beast!

Illusion Beasts are Pets even rarer than divine beasts.

Divine beasts can be cultivated from Pets whose racial breakthrough limits have been studied to evolve to divine levels, but Illusion Beasts cannot.

Each Illusion Beast has exclusive skills and exclusive characteristics, plus their rarity, making them, in a sense, even more incredible than divine beasts.

Praying Luck La, an Illusion Beast that can grant people good luck.

Legend has it that anyone blessed by it, whatever they wish for in the moment, as long as they dare to act, the whole world will assist them.

There was a movie about a protagonist who, after losing everything in his career and love life, decided to jump off a cliff, encountered Praying Luck La, then stumbled upon an injured divine beast and got a lucky break, humiliated those who once looked down on him, married a rich and beautiful woman, and finally reached the pinnacle of his life.

If it weren’t for the director of that movie doing extensive research and portraying Praying Luck La’s transparent outline as having two three-horned ears, Qiao Sang wouldn’t have dared to associate the Pet covered in white cloth in front of her with the legendary Illusion Beast.

Such an awesome Pet must be captured for a contract! Could it be for a photo op to post on social media before releasing it?

What a pity, if it weren’t for this uncle, she could have taken a photo as a souvenir.

An Illusion Beast, who knows if she’ll ever encounter a second one in this lifetime.

Qiao Sang had no intention of getting involved with this uncle capturing Praying Luck La.

It’s normal for a Yu Beast Master to capture Pets, but it’s usually done in secret realms. After all, it’s rare for a wild Pet one wants to contract to appear in the city.

As for contracting Praying Luck La, she hadn’t even considered it.

One should only do what one is capable of. Not only did her yu beast codex not have a fourth page, but she could barely afford to raise Ya! and the others.

Lu Bao, at least, was found in her own backyard and they had developed a certain emotional bond.

Praying Luck La was different; they hadn’t even exchanged a single word.

Besides, even if she purely wanted to help out of kindness, she couldn’t win. It was better not to meddle. Qiao Sang didn’t consider herself to have any heroic complex.

“Capture it?” Zhang Rongtang chuckled, taking the circular device containing Praying Luck La from the Zhuang Tong Flying Owl’s claws and holding it before his eyes. “I didn’t want to treat it this way, but it always hides from me. I had no choice; I could only do this.”

“Yunyun!” Praying Luck La furiously attacked the device.

Zhang Rongtang stared at Praying Luck La, his gaze like that of someone looking at an unreasonable child: “It’s useless. I spent—”

Before he could finish speaking, a scorching flame suddenly attacked.

“Ya! Ya!”
