Beast Taming: Starting From Zero
Chapter 282: Guessed wrong
As soon as the words fell, the five heads sitting in front all turned around.
Their eyes were curious, yet held a hint of hostility.
After all, everyone present knew of Qiao Sang’s existence and that she was going to be parachuted in to participate in the Senior National Campus Pet Beast League.
The number of participants for each grade level in every school is fixed, so if someone joins, naturally someone else has to leave.
Three of these five people were from the team battle group, so Qiao Sang’s arrival didn’t affect them.
However, they were all in the senior year, and they occasionally trained with members of the battle group, so their relationship was naturally extraordinary, leading to a feeling of shared animosity.
For instance, Xu Yixuan was confident that she wouldn’t be the one kicked out, so her mindset was extremely stable, which was also why Sun Boyi asked her to pick up Qiao Sang.
“Hello, Sun Teacher,” Qiao Sang greeted.
It wasn’t that she knew Sun Boyi, but the Vice Principal had mentioned that the head coach of the senior School Team was the teacher previously responsible for special recruitment, and his face matched the description.
Sun Boyi strode closer with his long legs and said, “The Vice Principal should have told you about the situation of our senior School Team.”
Qiao Sang nodded and hummed in acknowledgment.
“For your age, having three Pets, two of which have reached the Intermediate level, indeed makes you one of the most top-tier new Yu Beast Masters globally,” Sun Boyi’s tone shifted, “However, here, I emphasize fairness and impartiality; everything still depends on strength.”
“For your senior classmates, this is already their third National Campus Pet Beast League. In terms of battle experience and understanding of opponents, they definitely have an advantage over you.”
“Later, you will take turns battling them, following the rules of the National Campus Pet Beast League.”
“If you can defeat any one of them, I will naturally welcome you with open arms to participate in the senior competition. However, if you lose, even if it’s the Vice Principal’s request, I cannot agree to you representing the senior class in the competition.”
“Of course, if you only want to train with the senior School Team and not participate in the competition, I naturally won’t say anything.”
It was true that Qiao Sang was extraordinarily talented, but competitions were all about winning.
Not to mention the entire nation, just in Hanggang City, students participating in the senior competition usually possessed at least two Intermediate Pets and had undergone a considerable period of training and integration.
Sun Boyi was considered one of the more rational types.
When the Vice Principal proposed that Qiao Sang participate in the senior competition, his initial reaction was to refuse.
This student might achieve excellent results in the freshman or even sophomore competitions, but in the senior competition, it would be highly uncertain.
After all, the senior competition primarily focused on practical combat experience.
And this experience required long-term accumulation; it wasn’t simply a matter of a Pet’s level and quantity meeting the participant’s requirements to compete.
Furthermore, almost all senior participants from all schools in Hanggang City had progressed from the freshman year. They were essentially old rivals, with a certain understanding of each other’s Pets, which wouldn’t apply to Qiao Sang.
However, since this was ultimately a request from the Vice Principal, he couldn’t directly refuse.
But if Qiao Sang lost, he would then have a legitimate reason to refuse.
Sun Boyi didn’t think the other party would refuse; geniuses generally had confidence, even arrogance, in their own abilities, especially a prodigy like Qiao Sang.
Qiao Sang indeed didn’t refuse; she just paused for a moment and corrected, “All three of my Pets have reached the Intermediate level.”
At these words, the expressions of the senior members who had been paying attention collectively froze.
Sun Boyi asked blankly, “All three of your Pets have evolved to Intermediate?”
“Yes,” Qiao Sang replied.
Sun Boyi was silent for more than ten seconds, processing the news, then raised his voice and asked again:
“Are all three of your Pets really at the Intermediate level?”
“Yes,” Qiao Sang nodded.
Sun Boyi fell silent again.
After a long while, he said earnestly, “There’s only about a month left until the National Campus Pet Beast League. Let’s hurry up and train.”
Qiao Sang raised an eyebrow and asked, “Didn’t you say we’d take turns battling first to see if I qualify?”
“With two Intermediate Pets, we would need to battle, but with three Intermediate Pets, there’s no need to battle,” Sun Boyi said solemnly.
For the senior competition, if Qiao Sang’s third Pet was Beginner, it would essentially be useless, making no difference at all.
But if the third Pet was also Intermediate, the nature of the situation would be completely different!
It’s important to know that students with three Intermediate Pets in the national senior division were few and far between.
With three Intermediate Pets, even if an opponent studied you day and night, they might not be able to devise a suitable counter-strategy.
Xu Yixuan listened from the side, utterly bewildered. Just as she thought Qiao Sang’s participation in the senior competition was officially settled, a voice spoke up from the side.
“I think for the sake of fairness, we must compete,” Qiao Sang said with righteous indignation.
What a joke, those were Points! How could she not compete!
Besides, there’s a difference in fighting spirit between ordinary training battles and losing and becoming a substitute.
Yabao hadn’t had a satisfying battle in a long time.
It couldn’t always be like grinding small monsters for experience in a game; that was completely meaningless.
Sun Boyi stared at Qiao Sang for a moment, then smiled and said, “Alright, let’s compete!”
After speaking, he turned to the still-stunned group of people and asked, “Who’s going first?”
The two members of the senior battle group recovered and exchanged glances. One of them, a thick-browed, squinty-eyed boy, as round as a ball, raised his hand and volunteered, “I’ll go!”
He Datao moved his bulky frame to the center of the training ground.
Although he was a bit bewildered when he heard that all three of Qiao Sang’s Pets were Intermediate, the rules of the senior National Campus Pet Beast League were 2V2.
Qiao Sang was a prominent figure in the school; almost the entire school knew the information about her first two Pets, excluding the third.
And Qiao Sang certainly didn’t know his Pet’s information.
This was an advantage.
After Qiao Sang stood firm on the other side of the training ground, Sun Boyi began:
“According to the rules of the National Campus Pet Beast League, the Pets used must be registered. If a Pet is forced off the field or actively crosses the designated boundary, it is considered to have lost the qualification to continue the match.”
“Neither side can actively switch Pets before their current Pet loses consciousness.”
“Pets must be summoned simultaneously, with no time difference. During the Pet battle, no auxiliary items related to Pets may be used.”
“The number of Pets used in the senior division is two, and in battle…”
The members of the senior School Team basically knew the competition rules backward and forward, so Sun Boyi’s lengthy explanation was clearly for Qiao Sang’s benefit.
“Who do you think He Datao and Qiao Sang will send out?” Xu Yixuan asked, approaching the other four people.
These four people were well aware of Xu Yixuan’s character, so they didn’t speak.
Sure enough, Xu Yixuan continued:
“You don’t need to answer; let me guess.”
“I think Qiao Sang will send out Yan Ling Dog; it’s a safe bet,” Xu Yixuan analyzed:
“The first contracted Pet’s strength is usually the strongest. Do you remember during the freshman strength demonstration, her Yan Ling Dog rampaged, not only having the Raging Flames characteristic but also Mars Rain? Sending it out gives a high chance of winning.”
“He Datao must be thinking the same thing, so I think he’ll send out Magma Burst Gorilla. His Magma Burst Gorilla has the Flash Fire characteristic, which can just counter Yan Ling Dog.”
The four people listening on the side didn’t speak, but they agreed internally.
Although Xu Yixuan was a bit verbose, it had to be said that sometimes what she said made a lot of sense.
“Both sides, please summon your Pets simultaneously,” Sun Boyi followed the procedure of the National Campus Pet Beast League.
A green star array and a gray star array lit up simultaneously.
A red Pet and a light blue Pet appeared in everyone’s sight.
“Baobao!”
“Lu.”
Xu Yixuan first froze, then said somewhat awkwardly, “Guessed wrong.”
