Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 264: Countdown

Immediately following, the water cup on the coffee table levitated, tilted 75 degrees, and poured out. The water didn’t spill onto the floor; instead, it vanished as soon as it left the rim of the cup.

“Damn it! How many times have I told you! Don’t just put food and drinks in your mouth when I’m inside you!” Beside the coffee table, the Pet named Maodou reappeared. Yang Du, with wet hair, grumbled as he unzipped himself and emerged.

“La…”

“Xun!”

Before the zipper could be pulled up again, Little Xunbao suddenly appeared from nowhere, dove inside, and with an excited expression, stretched out her paws to try and pull up the zipper.

“La…”

The Pet named Maodou stopped Little Xunbao’s action and simultaneously looked down into his own belly.

“Xun~”

Little Xunbao showed a friendly smile.

“La.”

The Pet named Maodou was unmoved. He reached his paw into his belly and pulled Little Xunbao out.

“Xun!”

Little Xunbao floated beside Qiao Sang, pouting with a wronged expression.

“Is this Treasure Hunting Fairy also your Pet?” Yang Du asked, his eyes wide.

Ever since he learned of Water Luyana’s existence, his entire mental state had changed significantly.

“Yes.” Qiao Sang nodded.

“Maodou, this is your fault.” Yang Du slapped Maodou, who was in the process of zipping up: “She just wanted to go inside and play for a bit, why be so rough!”

“La…”

Maodou maintained his dazed expression, unzipped himself again, and barked at Little Xunbao.

“Xun~”

Little Xunbao immediately floated in happily.

Seeing the Pet named Maodou conceal himself again, Qiao Sang asked, “Is this Pet the Niduola from the Xi Lv region?”

In fact, Yu Beast Masters are mostly only familiar with the Pets from their own region, and generally have only a superficial understanding of Pets from other regions.

Either they look familiar but can’t be named, or they only know the name of a certain Pet’s form at a specific stage, but not the names of all its evolutionary forms.

But there are always some Pets that are exceptions.

For example, the signature Pets of various regions, or the Pets most frequently contracted in a particular area.

Like the Fire Fang Dog, people from other regions might not recognize it, but when mentioning Little Chubby Dove, White Sand Fox, Short-tailed Snake, Sand Burrowing Rat, and Shen Mao Turtle, people from other regions can name not only their Beginner forms but their entire evolutionary chains.

And Niduola belongs to this category.

As one of the Pets most frequently contracted by new Yu Beast Masters in the Xi Lv region, Qiao Sang had some understanding of her.

Niduola, the General-level evolution of Laladai, has a cute and dazed appearance and possesses the Concealment characteristic. She can open a zipper on her front and hide things inside, even living creatures.

This characteristic is deeply loved by househusbands and housewives, the reason being, of course, the convenience of grocery shopping.

“Yes.” Yang Du smiled, “You have good eyesight, little friend.”

Little friend…

Qiao Sang’s expression was strange, but then she thought that the person in front of her was actually 53 years old, so being called a little friend didn’t seem out of place…

The two chatted for a while and got to know each other a bit better.

Qiao Sang asked, “Uncle Yang, are you sick somewhere and need treatment?”

Since the reward for the mission was treatment, the person who accepted the mission naturally had a sickness they wanted to cure.

“You child, I’m so young, and you call me uncle.” Yang Du took a sip of water and said, “Just call me Yang.”

Uncle, 53 years old, not young anymore… Qiao Sang asked again, “Uncle Yang, what kind of illness do you have?”

“It’s not me.” Yang Du put down his water cup and said, “It’s my wife.”

Qiao Sang adopted a listening posture.

Yang Du remembered his wife’s condition, and his spirits sank again. He pursed his lips and said, “My wife’s brain region was severely damaged due to a forced breakthrough, and now she can only maintain her state in the hospital through deep hypnosis and nutrient fluid injections.”

“If she wakes up, she’ll be unable to listen to anything due to headaches and won’t be able to control her own actions. She’ll grab nearby objects and hit her own head. Even if all the surrounding objects are cleared, she’ll still bang her head against the wall.”

Qiao Sang asked in surprise, “Why would she choose to forcefully break through her brain region?”

The brain region is a Yu Beast Master’s lifeline; it cannot be tampered with lightly. Even if the progress of the brain region can no longer be developed, one cannot choose to forcefully break through.

This is a bloody lesson learned by countless Yu Beast Masters throughout history!

She didn’t expect that even in this day and age, someone would still choose to forcefully break through their brain region.

Yang Du rubbed his temples and said in a deep voice, “It’s all my fault. I was always away and didn’t spend much time with her. Last time I went back, I planned to give her a surprise, but I didn’t expect her to be out when I returned. And one of her friends happened to be visiting. I knew that friend too, so I didn’t think much of it and invited her in.”

“I didn’t expect…” At this point, Yang Du suddenly remembered that Qiao Sang was still a minor, so he felt a bit awkward and skipped the details, saying, “In short, I didn’t do anything, but my wife happened to come back and misunderstood.”

“Later, she wanted to divorce me, but I disagreed. She then filed for divorce. We have a child, and she wanted the child to be with her, but I am a B-level Beast Tamer, and I hadn’t made any mistakes, so the court rejected the lawsuit.”

“She believed that the main reason the lawsuit failed was because I was a B-level Beast Tamer, so she desperately tried to develop her brain region to become stronger than me, and that’s how she ended up like this.”

She really was desperate to divorce you… Qiao Sang mused inwardly.

She had expected to hear some tragic medical history, but instead, she heard some gossip.

To be honest, Qiao Sang could understand his wife’s actions. Perhaps in his wife’s mind, she thought it was a double betrayal by both a friend and her husband, which made her unusually angry and unable to think calmly.

If that friend was actually not a friend but a stranger, she probably wouldn’t have been so impulsive as to do something as irrational as forcefully breaking through her brain region.

Just as Qiao Sang was about to say something, her peripheral vision caught sight of Little Xunbao going in and out of Niduola’s belly.

“Lulu.” Water Luyana called out to Little Xunbao when she came out.

“Xun~” Little Xunbao, engrossed in play, didn’t respond.

Yabao stood stiffly beside Water Luyana, like a wooden post, his expression frozen.

Qiao Sang paused when she saw this scene, then she seemed to think of something, looking at Water Luyana for a moment, then Yabao, and then Little Xunbao.

After repeating this several times.

“I got it!” Qiao Sang suddenly stood up.

Yang Du was startled: “What did you get?”

Qiao Sang chuckled, “A grand show.”

After speaking, she bowed deeply to Yang Du: “Thank you for the inspiration.”

Yang Du: “???”

That evening, Yang Du moved in. The house had many rooms, so he found a room on the second floor and settled in.

After confirming that he didn’t need to buy daily necessities, Qiao Sang returned to the first floor, secretly called Yabao and Little Xunbao into her room, and whispered to them.

Ten minutes later, Little Xunbao floated out of the room, her face full of excitement.

Meanwhile, Yabao walked out of the room with an expression of “Who am I, where am I?”

Qiao Sang then went to her desk and opened her notebook to write a line:

“Countdown to Water Luyana’s evolution: 8 days.”
