Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 16: It’s intuition

It was 5:30 PM.

Hang Gang No. 37 Beast Taming High School was dismissed.

At 5:33 PM, large groups of students walked out of the school gate in twos and threes.

“Are we fighting here?” a slightly deep voice asked.

Qiao Sang had been reading for nearly an hour when she finally got her first inquiry.

She looked up to see a tall, burly man standing in front of her. A fist-thick, earth-yellow snake Pet coiled from his waist up to his neck, where its triangular head emerged.

It was a Long-tailed Snake, the evolved form of a Short-tailed Snake.

Qiao Sang glanced at it twice, then took out a pen from her backpack and silently added a few words to her paper.

【Beginner Pets only】

The tall man clicked his tongue, said nothing more, and turned to leave.

Where there was one, there was a second, and soon another person arrived.

This time, the inquirer was a sunny-looking boy. He came up to Qiao Sang, scratched his head, and said a little shyly, “If I win, I don’t want money. Can I have your contact information instead?”

Qiao Sang replied readily, “You can.”

No money was even better. Her entire fortune amounted to only 532 alliance coins, barely enough for her to lose a few rounds, and she still needed to save some for her return fare.

Standing beside the boy was a spiky-haired friend, clearly enjoying the spectacle.

“Let’s go fight over there,” the spiky-haired boy suggested, pointing to a poplar tree in Nanhe Park.

Their current location was the entrance and exit of Nanhe Park, and with students coming and going after school, it wasn’t a suitable place for a battle.

Qiao Sang looked in the direction he pointed and nodded.

The three of them arrived under the poplar tree, where the location was secluded, and no one could be seen within about 20 meters.

“I’ll be the referee,” the spiky-haired boy volunteered.

Qiao Sang naturally had no objections.

The boy formed a summoning seal, and from beneath a white star array, a plump, brown Little Chubby Dove, about 80 centimeters tall, appeared on the ground.

An ordinary Little Chubby Dove is usually around 60 centimeters tall; this one was clearly very well-bred.

“Jiang Liu, you don’t mind if the girl goes first, do you?” the spiky-haired boy asked.

Different matches have different rules; some decide who attacks first before the match, while others don’t care who goes first.

“Of course,” Jiang Liu said, shrugging his shoulders.

As the referee, the spiky-haired boy chose Qiao Sang to go first. Qiao Sang didn’t fuss and directly said, “Fire Fang Dog, use Spark.”

“Ya!”

The Fire Fang Dog leaped out of Qiao Sang’s arms, its eyes instantly sharpening. It opened its mouth and released a fist-sized, reddish-orange flame.

Facing this sudden attack, Jiang Liu gave no command. The Little Chubby Dove’s expression remained normal, and when the Spark was about to land on it, it hopped twice to the left and dodged it.

The Little Chubby Dove is known for being slow, and this one wouldn’t be fast either, but its reaction ability was good. It dodged the attack with minimal movement, indicating it had undergone targeted training.

Qiao Sang analyzed the situation, but her commands didn’t stop. “Ram.”

The Fire Fang Dog put strength into its four limbs and charged forward.

“Fly up and use Howl,” Jiang Liu issued his first command.

The Little Chubby Dove flapped its short wings and flew into the air.

The Fire Fang Dog hadn’t been trained, and its attack speed wasn’t fast. The Little Chubby Dove had already flown up when its charge was only halfway there.

“Dove!”

Howl is a relatively common skill that cannot directly cause damage in battle; it can only briefly affect the opponent.

To Qiao Sang, the sound was just a bit harsh, but the Fire Fang Dog’s movement faltered, and its speed slowed slightly.

“Aerial Strike,” Jiang Liu immediately commanded.

Aerial Strike is a Flying-type Pet’s exclusive skill, similar to a ground Pet’s Ram. The difference between the two is that Ram relies solely on the Pet’s own limb strength, while Aerial Strike can also utilize air currents to generate an impact far exceeding a normal Ram.

The Little Chubby Dove pulled its wings back, and air currents swirled around it with a whistling sound, rushing straight towards the Fire Fang Dog.

The Fire Fang Dog, seeing the oncoming Little Chubby Dove, instinctively wanted to dodge.

“Don’t move!” Qiao Sang commanded at that moment.

If it was hit by Aerial Strike, it would surely suffer significant injuries, but the Fire Fang Dog heard Qiao Sang’s command and forcefully controlled its body, choosing to obey Qiao Sang’s words.

It was unbelievable!

The spiky-haired boy stared at the scene, his eyes widening uncontrollably.

Both Qiao Sang’s command and the Fire Fang Dog’s reaction made him feel it was incredibly unbelievable.

Never mind the command, was the Fire Fang Dog really that obedient?!

If it were a second or third contracted Pet, it would be understandable, but this was clearly a new Yu Beast Master’s first Pet.

Among 1000 new Yu Beast Masters, you couldn’t find one who would contract a Fire-type Pet. Their school, with over 3000 people, only had two brave individuals who dared to contract a Fire-type Pet as their first.

Fire-type Pets are known for being irritable and unruly.

How did she manage to make a Fire-type Pet obediently stand still and take a beating?!

If they weren’t in the middle of a battle, the spiky-haired boy would have wanted to run over and humbly ask this brave girl for advice.

“Now, jump!”

Qiao Sang calmly observed the situation, issuing the command when the Little Chubby Dove was about to hit the Fire Fang Dog.

The Fire Fang Dog didn’t hesitate. The moment Qiao Sang gave the command, it leaped up.

Jiang Liu was stunned by the scene before him.

How did this Fire Fang Dog just…

How did it jump onto the Little Chubby Dove’s back?!

“Fire Fang, attack its wings!” Seizing the opportunity while the opponent hadn’t reacted, Qiao Sang issued the next command.

The Fire Fang Dog bared its sharp teeth, and flames immediately engulfed them. It mercilessly bit down on the Little Chubby Dove’s right wing.

“Dove!!!”

The Little Chubby Dove let out an incredibly painful wail. After this shriek, its body fell heavily to the ground.

“A-Pang!” Jiang Liu exclaimed.

The Fire Fang Dog jumped off the Fat Home Dove, turning its head to look at Qiao Sang with excitement in its eyes.

“Finally, Spark,” Qiao Sang said calmly.

The Fire Fang Dog quickly turned its head back.

Under the attack of the fist-sized Spark, the Little Chubby Dove whimpered and fainted.

Silence fell all around.

About five seconds passed.

“Brave girl… classmate, what’s your name?” the spiky-haired boy asked awkwardly.

“My name is Qiao Sang,” Qiao Sang replied.

“Qiao Sang wins,” the spiky-haired boy announced the final result.

Jiang Liu silently recalled the Little Chubby Dove into his yu beast codex.

“How did you judge the timing to make the Fire Fang Dog jump onto the Little Chubby Dove’s back?” Jiang Liu walked over, his expression complex.

This girl looked even younger than him, yet her battle awareness was so strong.

Given the speed of Aerial Strike, the timing for the jump wasn’t easy to calculate.

If the Fire Fang Dog had waited until the Little Chubby Dove was almost in front of it to jump, it would definitely have been too late. This required calculating the Little Chubby Dove’s charging speed.

And the Fire Fang Dog, if it had hesitated for even half a second, it definitely wouldn’t have been able to get onto the Little Chubby Dove’s back.

All of this was built upon trust and command with the Yu Beast Master.

Qiao Sang said seriously, “It was intuition.”

Jiang Liu: “…”
