Beast Taming: Starting From Zero
Chapter 14: I want to take leave
Qiao Sang looked at Dai Shushu for two seconds, then smiled and said, “Yes, do you have anything else?”
Dai Shushu’s eyes narrowed slightly, and she shook her head, saying, “No.”
Qiao Sang turned and went back to the classroom.
As soon as she sat down, Fang Sisi leaned over. “What did Dai Shushu say to you? You look so upset.”
“Do I look upset?” Qiao Sang asked.
“Yes, you had a straight face; you scared me to death,” Fang Sisi teased.
If there was a mirror, Qiao Sang wanted to check.
Fang Sisi then asked, “What did Dai Shushu want from you, exactly?”
“Nothing,” Qiao Sang picked up her book again and started reading.
Fang Sisi wanted to ask more, but seeing that Qiao Sang didn’t want to talk much, she closed her mouth.
When the morning classes ended, Qiao Sang packed her things and went to the office of the third-year department.
“Teacher, I need to ask for a leave of absence,” Qiao Sang stared at Lao Ban’s thick hair.
Lao Ban suddenly stood up.
There was also a Teacher in the office, and her gaze immediately locked onto them.
Lao Ban controlled himself for a moment. “Do you know what you’re saying? The high school entrance exam is only a few days away, and you’re still asking for leave. I haven’t even asked you to write a letter of self-criticism for skipping class last time.”
Qiao Sang said seriously, “Teacher, if you don’t let me take leave, I can only skip class. I’ll make up the letter of self-criticism.”
A vein popped out on Lao Ban’s temple, and he said, “Do your family know about this leave of absence?”
Qiao Sang did not answer.
Lao Ban took a deep breath, sat down, and said earnestly, “If you don’t want your mom to come to school again, then go back to class properly. I wronged you about what happened last time, but even if you awakened your Gold Finger, you can’t neglect your studies. The high school entrance exam is in a few days.”
Qiao Sang smiled and said, “Teacher, you were there last Friday when my mom came to school, too.”
Lao Ban was stunned for a moment, then replied, “I asked your mom to come to school to explain about skipping class.”
Qiao Sang tilted her head and asked, “Why did you kick my mom out?”
Lao Ban froze, his expression complex. He thought Qiao Sang’s mother had told her, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to answer.
He shared an office with the homeroom Teacher of Class 9.
That day, Dai Shushu from Class 9 and her mother came to school, coincidentally at the same time as Qiao Sang’s mother.
Dai Shushu had just been recommended to Saint Water Middle School, and the dean of students also came to congratulate her.
The attention in the office was already on Class 9.
At this moment, Qiao Sang’s mother explained that her daughter had forgotten to ask for leave because she was so happy after awakening her Gold Finger and going to contract a Pet.
Children might lie, but adults wouldn’t be so ignorant, so he naturally believed it.
This was originally a happy occasion, but unexpectedly, everyone in the office started paying attention. With a few questions and answers, all of Qiao Sang’s past was revealed.
Dai Shushu’s mother made a few sarcastic remarks, and Qiao Sang’s mother started arguing with her.
Dai Shushu cried by the side.
As the school’s darling, she naturally couldn’t be made to feel wronged, so the dean of students spoke up and told Qiao Sang’s mother to leave.
Lao Ban considered himself a qualified Teacher.
He wasn’t good at networking, worked diligently, and only became a homeroom Teacher after more than 20 years.
After all that time, his youthful ambition was gone, and he didn’t dare to speak up when parents of students in his class were treated differently.
But he also felt he hadn’t done anything wrong; he was just a bystander, and there was no need to explain the process to a child.
Lao Ban paused, then said, “It wasn’t kicking out; it was inviting out, just to let your mom calm down.”
Qiao Sang smiled, “I understand, but that ‘invitation’ made my mom sick. Teacher, you know my family’s situation; only I can take care of my mom.”
When Lao Ban heard this, his momentum deflated. “How long do you need to be off?”
Qiao Sang replied, “Until my mom gets better.”
Lao Ban hesitated for a moment, then said, “You need to come back early; the high school entrance exam is in a few days.”
Qiao Sang nodded and turned to leave.
Watching Qiao Sang’s retreating back, Lao Ban, still worried, added, “You must study hard at home too. There’s not much time left until the high school entrance exam. As soon as your mom feels a little better, come back quickly.”
Qiao Sang turned her head and glanced at Lao Ban, smiling, “Teacher, your wig is crooked.”
Lao Ban: “…”
Teacher: “…”
… …
… …
Hanggang City Xiangzhen Yu Beast Battle Club.
“How much does your club charge for a Beginner sparring partner for a day?”
“Hello, our sparring partners are charged by the hour. A Beginner sparring partner is 1000 alliance coins per hour. If you book for a whole day, we can give you a 2% discount,” the Miss at the front desk said with a smile.
Yu Beast Battle Clubs can provide different sparring partners according to customer requirements. As a popular industry in today’s society, they have covered large and small districts.
In some listed Yu Beast Battle Clubs, if you can afford it, you can even find an S-Class Beast Master as a sparring partner, but there are only a few such Yu Beast Battle Clubs.
Xiangzhen Yu Beast Battle Club was the fifth club Qiao Sang had found.
There was only one reason for searching so many Yu Beast Battle Clubs.
Not enough money…
Qiao Sang felt the contents of her pockets, then silently walked out, holding Fire Fang Dog.
Qiao Sang felt a bit lost, unsure where to go.
Originally, she had a ‘go with the flow’ attitude towards Saint Water Middle School. If she passed the special recruitment, that was great; if not, she still had the Sixth Yu Beast Middle School as a fallback, so it wasn’t a big deal.
But now, she wanted to attend this school.
The special recruitment exam for Saint Water Middle School was in 10 days, and with her current level, it was uncertain if she could even pass the minimum score for the high school entrance exam.
The second to fifth place candidates needed to score 50 points higher than the minimum passing score to be admitted, and Qiao Sang wasn’t confident.
Given this, she could only secure the privilege of the minimum high school entrance exam score by ranking first in the special recruitment exam.
With this decision made, Fire Fang Dog’s training had to be moved up.
Although Fire Fang Dog was a fire-type Pet with strong attack power, it was still a cub with little combat experience. The reason it won so easily last time was entirely due to the 2V1 situation and the opponent’s slow reaction.
If she were to go into the special recruitment exam like this, first place would probably be out of the question.
With only 10 days, staying in school would be too much of a waste of time. She could self-study while training Fire Fang Dog.
She had her Gold Finger, and through actual combat, she could rapidly increase Fire Fang Dog’s combat power in a short period.
Qiao Sang had thought it through well, but she was bewildered once she stepped out.
Currently, there are many Pet battles, large and small, and many venues, but there are also many requirements. Some competitions require the Yu Beast Master’s level.
Yu Beast competitions also need to earn viewership and ticket money. A new Yu Beast Master usually only has one Beginner Pet, and they only have a few moves, so it’s not very exciting to watch.
If the audience doesn’t like to watch, naturally, no organizer would want to lose money by hosting them.
Qiao Sang checked, and the nearest competition in Hanggang City that an F-level Beastmaster could participate in was on June 30th.
The organizers timed it very well. By then, all third-year students would have finished their high school entrance exams, and those who were going to contract Pets would have done so.
There would definitely be no shortage of new Yu Beast Masters signing up.
And with their parents, school Teachers, and various relatives and friends as a mass base, the viewership would not be low.
