Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 13: Someone looking for you

“Oh, by the way, Big Thigh…” Fang Sisi still wanted to say something.

“Can you not call me Big Thigh?” Qiao Sang directly interrupted her.

“Then how about I call you Beautiful Legs?” Fang Sisi asked.

Qiao Sang: “…”

Under Qiao Sang’s death glare, Fang Sisi finally changed her words, “Qiao Sang, have you already contracted a Pet?”

Any newly awakened Yu Beast Master cannot resist the temptation to contract a Pet immediately.

Qiao Sang nodded, not denying it.

“Then you…”

Just as Fang Sisi was about to ask further, the noise in the classroom suddenly seemed to be muted.

Looking up, it turned out that Lao Ban had arrived…

The next second, Fang Sisi’s face turned pale.

Oh no, oh no, she hadn’t finished copying her homework!

“We’ll gather on the playground in five minutes.” Lao Ban finished speaking and glanced in Qiao Sang’s direction.

More than 4,000 students and over 300 in-service teachers from Wencheng Middle School were all gathered on the playground, a dense, dark mass.

“Why is the whole school here?” Fang Sisi, standing at the back, poked Qiao Sang with her finger.

“I don’t know,” Qiao Sang said.

Ninth graders, being in the sprint stage, generally wouldn’t participate in morning assemblies with seventh and eighth graders. Even if the school required assembly, there were always one or two classes that were exceptions.

Qiao Sang looked up at the rostrum and saw that all the high-ranking officials of the school, including the Principal, Vice Principal, and Dean of Students, were present. This was a rare grand occasion for a morning assembly.

Principal Chen Yongfeng was speaking on stage, repeating old clichés. Every morning assembly speech was just a few sentences, without any novelty.

Qiao Sang was bored, not listening to anything being said on stage.

More than ten minutes later, a thunderous applause erupted, and Qiao Sang subconsciously joined in.

A petite figure walked from the ninth-grade section to the rostrum.

“Respected teachers, dear classmates, hello everyone, I am Dai Shushu from Class 9 of ninth grade. It is my honor…”

What was originally thought to be just a regular morning assembly turned out to be Dai Shushu’s personal commendation ceremony.

Qiao Sang had never interacted with Dai Shushu, but with so many people discussing her, she naturally knew a thing or two.

Her family was not well-off; she was the only one receiving school financial aid, was ranked first in her grade for all three years of middle school, and was later admitted to a Yu Beast high school through self-awakening. She was a typical inspirational figure.

“What’s the use of being admitted? With her family’s situation, can they afford a Pet?” a boy standing to the right scoffed.

“Her parents aren’t Yu Beast Masters, so I don’t know how they managed to have a self-awakened Yu Beast Master,” someone commented.

Qiao Sang was somewhat surprised. With the development of Yu Beast society, humans had long realized that children born to Yu Beast Masters were more likely to become Yu Beast Masters.

The higher the level of the Yu Beast Master, the more likely they were to have children with high talent.

Conversely, if both parents were ordinary people, the chance of their child becoming a Yu Beast Master was only 2%.

If there was a slight chance of ordinary people having a Yu Beast Master child, then the probability of someone self-awakening was almost infinitesimally small.

Qiao Sang became interested and perked up her ears to listen to the speech.

“This admission to Saint Water Middle School, besides my own efforts, is also inseparable from the teachers…”

Qiao Sang’s eyelashes fluttered.

They both self-awakened, and now with Saint Water Middle School in the mix, it was hard for Qiao Sang not to compare herself to her.

After comparing, she felt disheartened and lost interest in listening to the rest of the speech.

Back in the classroom, Qiao Sang focused entirely on her books.

As a middle school student nearing the high school entrance exam, the required courses had long been completed; the main focus was review and practice tests.

【More than 3000 years ago, disaster struck from the heavens. Super catastrophes like earthquakes, hurricanes, and volcanic eruptions plunged the entire world into an apocalyptic atmosphere. Which Yu Beast Master stopped this catastrophe?】

【A Chen Jiading】

【B Sen Xiaoman】

【C Wang Wenyu】

【D Wang Yao】

Qiao Sang had seen many historical questions like these in the past few days. The catastrophe from over 3000 years ago was not a natural disaster but a man-made one.

It was Wang Yao who created the disaster with his Pet. As an SS-grade Yu Beast Master, he already possessed the ability to change nature.

As the yu beast codex awakened more times, when a Yu Beast Master reached D-grade, they would receive a certain amount of feedback from their Pet, which would affect their lifespan and physique.

As the grade increased, the feedback became stronger.

Unless directly attacked, it was difficult to be harmed by the aftermath.

Wang Yao, relying on his SS-grade Yu Beast Master physique, managed to break through the encirclement of the Alliance, killing 223 Yu Beast Masters, including 11 S-Class Beast Masters.

An S-Class Beast Master required at least a century of effort to reach that level, and the Alliance suffered heavy losses.

Later, SS-grade Yu Beast Master Wang Wenyu returned from Yan Tian Star and subdued Wang Yao, but in that battle, five of his Pets that had always accompanied him died.

Wang Wenyu had lived in seclusion ever since.

This question could easily lead to choosing D if not read carefully.

This question appeared on the last mock exam. Qiao Sang didn’t misread the question; she chose D because of the “three long, one short” rule.

She looked at the question and changed her previous answer.

“Qiao Sang, someone’s looking for you,” a female classmate sitting by the door called out.

Qiao Sang looked up to see a girl whose school uniform was faded from washing, smiling at her at the doorway.

“It’s Dai Shushu! When did you two get to know each other?” Fang Sisi asked in surprise.

Dai Shushu was a popular figure in the school, naturally attracting the attention of classmates, who all turned their heads to look.

“I don’t know her,” Qiao Sang was also puzzled.

She walked out.

“Is there something you need?” Qiao Sang asked, full of doubt.

She was sure her previous self had no interaction with Dai Shushu. One was a top student, the other a poor student, and they were in different classes. With graduation approaching, she couldn’t think of any reason for the other party to look for her.

“I apologize on behalf of my mother for what happened last time,” Dai Shushu said.

She had the appearance of a delicate white flower, and due to malnutrition, she looked frail and weak, as if she would float away with a gust of wind.

“What happened?” Qiao Sang raised an eyebrow.

“Didn’t Auntie tell you? Last Friday, my mom said some unpleasant things to Auntie. There were teachers all around at the time, and I couldn’t intervene. Is Auntie doing okay after she went back?” Dai Shushu said softly.

Qiao Sang was silent for a moment, then asked, “What did your mom say?”

Dai Shushu showed an apologetic expression, “Just some nasty things. My mom didn’t do it on purpose, and Auntie said some things too.” She paused, “It’s just that the teachers saw they were about to fight and told Auntie to leave directly. I feel a bit bad about it.”

Qiao Sang said expressionlessly, “The teachers told my mom to leave, what does that have to do with you?”

Dai Shushu tucked her hair back, “If it weren’t for me, the teachers wouldn’t have told Auntie to leave.”

“I understand,” Qiao Sang asked again, “What did your mom say at the time?”

Dai Shushu lowered her head. She was already half a head shorter than Qiao Sang, and with her head down, her expression was hidden.

“My mom said that your poor grades were because you had no father to discipline you, and that you only self-awakened by sheer dumb luck. She also said that Auntie was so fierce, no wonder she got divorced.”

She looked up, appearing innocent, “So, did you really self-awaken?”
