“When someone targets the President, those hidden figures would surely be restless and bound to come forward. After all, you represent the center of power, and an attack on you signifies that their time is running out. Besides, in two years, the Hil civilization will mount a major offensive, leaving Green Star with not much time left…” Duge smiled, “The most crucial thing is, you’re not much harmed, are you?”
“So, that’s your purpose?” The President turned up his mouth as if his cheeks were still in pain, “You aren’t worried that I, out of humiliation, will simply order your elimination?”
“Mr. President, I too have governed a nation. Those in power, if they are capable, would just act without wasting words,” Duge shook his head, smiling, “Besides, it wasn’t me who hit you, you can’t blame everything on me!”
When Duge mentioned his experience governing a nation, Nalan Li gave him a surprised glance but then saw him shamelessly deny his own misdeeds and subconsciously turned her head away, too embarrassed to look at him.
“Lin Hong, you could have just told me if you had any thoughts; I could have played along, there was no need to actually hit me,” the President said, “I too have my pride.”
“You didn’t tell me when you sent Gu Qingyan to my side!” Duge laughed, “Anything staged will ultimately be fake, and anything fake can be spotted for flaws. For the sake of our entire civilization, sacrificing a bit of personal image is not a big deal.”
A moment of silence.
The President moved on from the topic: “Lin Hong, I want to know what your ultimate goal is. Are you aiming for the top three?”
“Mr. President, securing the top three is a must,” Duge nodded, “But what I said about helping Green Star defeat the Hil civilization is also true. Having been through several Alien Battlefield experiences, I’m feeling somewhat tired and want to rest in this world for a while, therefore, I aim to create a peaceful and stable environment.”
“What do you plan to do next?” the President asked.
“Keep the obedient ones and eliminate the disobedient,” Duge stated.
“…” The President frowned and asked, “Everyone is forming cliques, how will you deal with over a thousand people all by yourself?”
“Mr. President, you seem more anxious than I am,” Duge smiled, “Over a thousand people are not of one mind, and besides, there’s a planet among them that sees all Alien Warriors as enemies. Just give it some time, and they’ll start to turn on each other.”
“Have you considered the damage it would cause to Green Star when over a thousand super-powered individuals fight amongst themselves?” the President said, “Once you complete your missions and leave, how do we deal with the Hil civilization if you leave behind a ravaged Green Star?”
“That’s why I’m doing my utmost to help you improve your Mechas. I’ve kept Fan Lie here because I want to use his fusion skills to help Green Star develop super soldiers. I’ve kept Ying Fei because I want to use her gambling skills to secure the greatest benefits for Green Star,” Duge explained.
Looking at the President, Duge said, “Otherwise, why would I keep that deceitful guy around? And gambling is the least controllable, involving bets between two civilizations, the resulting ability enhancements are enough to make Ying Fei soar to great heights. You could say that I am exposing myself to mortal danger to show my sincerity to Green Star; you should be cooperating with me, rather than doubting me…”
Nalan Li was touched.
The President was an old fox and naturally did not believe Duge’s words. Looking at Duge, he asked, “So, what’s your key phrase?”
“Selflessness,” Duge replied after some thought.
The President choked on his breath, once again sidestepping the subject, and asked, “What do you need me to do?”
“Announce to the public that the war network is a breeding ground for superheros and shut down the war network in ten days,” Duge instructed, “When something’s done, it should be done thoroughly. We strive to force out all the Alien Warriors within a month and take care of those who might wreak havoc on Green Star, so we can then bravely and assuredly handle the Hil civilization.”
“What will you do?” the President inquired.
“Balance the various powers and, when possible, help the Science Academy improve Green Star’s technological level,” Duge said, looking at the President, “Mr. President, trust me, it’s much better dealing with temporary severe injuries than being slowly dragged to death by a chronic disease.”
“Alright, I’ll trust you one more time,” the President looked at Duge and nodded. He wasn’t convinced by Duge’s persuasion, but he was indeed frightened by him. The last incident with Mo Shengmin could be attributed to the early construction of the National Defense Bureau when the defenses were not fully established.
But his residence could be said to have the tightest security on Green Star. Even if Hil civilization’s spacecraft breached Green Star, they could hold out till the end. However, when Duge struck, it was as if no one else was present, and he took the shortest route possible.
This was somewhat frightening.
Duge only came to slap his face twice, and if other Alien Warriors harbored ill intentions, the defenses of the Presidential Palace would be as good as nonexistent to them.
If he were assassinated and Green Star fell under the control of Alien Warriors, the civilization of Green Star might truly come to an end.
Duge’s slaps truly woke the President up. He currently lacked the power to control these supermen, so choosing to cooperate with a relatively mild one like Duge was the best option.
Of course.
It would be even better to have another person to restrain him.
