Basque City.
The Earl’s Mansion.
Count Grita was enthusiastically entertaining the Allos family.
When the family of Duge, who had been banished by Duke Linqi, was passing through his territory, they were intercepted by him, but he did not send the Allos family back to the earl’s mansion.
“Viscount Allos, what Martial Spirit did Holley awaken to that failed?” Count Grita raised his glass to Vels Aros, smiling as he asked.
“My lord, my noble rank has already been stripped by Duke Linqi,” Vels replied with trepidation, rapidly pondering Count Grita’s intentions.
Owing to Holley’s troubles during their banishment, they faced countless difficulties and cold receptions, with no one willing to lend them a helping hand.
Being suddenly entertained by Count Grita while passing through his territory left him both flattered and puzzled.
Everything their family had managed was crumbling apart; he was valueless at this point.
Especially puzzling to him was why the Earl would mention Holley, for by now, Holley had been dead for several days.
The banished family of Allos were out of touch with the outside world, unaware of the events taking place.
“Vels, ranks can be stripped and restored. The matter of Holley shouldn’t involve the innocent. In this affair, perhaps I can offer you some assistance,” Count Grita said.
“My lord, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. May I ask if there’s anything I can help you with?” Vels became even more vigilant.
“Vels, don’t be so tense. I simply admire you and wish to make your acquaintance,” Count Grita chuckled, setting down his glass, and candidly stated, “You’re right to guess Holley isn’t dead. Moreover, something special has happened to him. That’s why I’ve sought you out for information about Holley, hoping you’ll tell me the truth. Only then can I help you.”
“What’s happened to Holley?” Vels asked.
“He’s escaped from prison, along with all the other lifers in White Stone City’s jail,” Duke Grita said.
“Escaped?” Vels’s eyes widened in astonishment. “He’s just an ordinary person, how could he possibly escape prison?”
“Stephen Gao, Duke Linqi’s proudest disciple, who’s a Magic Mentor, shared a cell with him. They stirred up some trouble in White Stone City, which is why I’ve stopped you, to inquire about Holley,” Count Grita said ambiguously, “Vels, this is your chance to make amends for your crimes.”
Vels, keenly aware of the abnormality, knew his son’s nature.
Without his protection, Holley was nothing more than a waste. Even considering an escape, the investigation should have pointed to Stephen Gao, not him.
Therefore, something extraordinary must have occurred in White Stone City—an event with Holley at the forefront.
He didn’t know whether the incident was good or bad or where it would take the Allos family’s fate…
But under normal circumstances, they would be interrogating, not entertaining, regarding Holley. Vels looked at Count Grita and cautiously asked, “My lord, what do you wish to know?”
“What Martial Spirit did Holley awaken to at the time?” Count Grita asked.
“The Crimson Golden Leopard,” Vels hesitated for a moment before responding.
“Are you certain?” Count Grita paused and asked.
“Certain. At the time of Holley’s awakening, the Martial Spirit of the Crimson Golden Leopard had already partially manifested. I was thrilled, thinking the Allos family would see the rise of a five-star Martial Spirit warrior. But in the end, it still failed.”
Vels had too little information, but he dared not refuse to answer Count Grita.
After much deliberation, he provided an answer; he didn’t think that Holley’s failed awakening of his Martial Spirit would matter.
Even if Holley was involved with Stephen Gao, could they really challenge Duke Linqi?
Deep down, Vels had grown to despise Holley, who after being coddled for over a decade, had ultimately caused a disaster that harmed the entire Allos Family.
Just as he saw a glimmer of hope for the family’s redemption, Vels no longer wanted to shelter that rebel son.
After speaking out, Vels felt much relieved and asked again, “Count Grita, may I know exactly what happened to Holley?”
“I’m sorry, Vels, but you should brace yourself; Holley might already be dead,” Count Grita said with a sigh, looking at Vels.
Vels was taken aback, “But you just said he escaped from prison!”
“Holley indeed escaped,” Grita said, “but it was not orchestrated by Stephen Gao. In the prison, Holley awakened a ten-star Martial Spirit, helped Stephen Gao break free from the mental prison, defeated the prison warden, Levi Karl, who possessed a seven-star Martial Spirit, and the next day, single-handedly defeated Duke Linqi and seized White Stone City…”
Grita briefly recounted some of the deeds Duge had done, and Vels’s heart rate quickened. He couldn’t help but retort, “That’s impossible; I know Holley, he can’t be that powerful…”
“You’re right, Vels,” Grita nodded, “When you told me that Holley’s failed Martial Spirit was a Crimson Golden Leopard, I knew that Holley was no longer himself. It’s very likely that he’s been possessed by an Evil God.”
“Possessed by an Evil God?” Vels’s throat moved as he swallowed hard.
“Yes, the kind that delights in creating disasters in the Mortal Realm,” Grita said. “To plunge the entire world into greater chaos, he even whitewashed Holley’s past deeds, making those foolish people crazily adore him, turning them into his followers.”
“Whitewashed?” Vels frowned, “With so many wrongdoings, could his misdeeds really be whitewashed?”
“He told the world that Holley’s failed awakening Martial Spirit was prophetic in nature; it had no Soul Power, but it could foresee disasters befalling others…” Grita looked at Vels and simply repeated the things Duge had done in White Stone City.
Vels was completely stunned; all he could think about was how it could be possible, how amazing it was!
“Vels, what are you thinking?” Grita asked.
“Nothing!” said Vels, shaking his head frantically.
“Let’s work together!” Grita proposed.
“Cooperate with what?” Vels asked instinctively.
“The one possessing Holley is a cunning Evil God, who almost fooled all the people in the territory of Duke Linqi,” Grita said earnestly, looking at Vels. “Only you, Vels, Holley’s biological father, can reveal his true nature and awaken the deluded populace, saving the world.”
Vels took a sip of the red wine in his hand, sinking into deep thought.
“Vels, that’s no longer your son. Surely you don’t still fantasize that an Evil God will bring glory to the Allos Family!” Grita frowned and said, “While acting under Holley’s name and declaring himself king, he will only bring greater disaster to the Allos Family. If you distance yourself from him now, once King Lucerne quells the rebellion, the Allos Family will surely recapture its former glory and perhaps even rise further.”
“Count Grita, Holley has defeated Duke Linqi, and even you were imprisoned in a mental cage by him; to reveal him now would only invite his wrath,” Vels said sheepishly. “Count, with our power, can we really deal with a mad Evil God?”
“Vels, I never fight unprepared battles,” Grita smiled, “A day ago, the Pope has set off to kill the Evil God and rescue Duke Linqi. The Pope is the emissary of the Solar God; you don’t think an Evil God could defeat His Holiness, do you?”
Seeing Vels’s astonished gaze, Grita patted his shoulder, “Recruiting you was a secret order given by the Pope. Our mission is to undermine the influence that Holley has built in the territory of Duke Linqi. Vels, seize this chance. Whether the Allos Family can rise again depends on our success this time.”
