Apocalypse I Have One More Keyword Than Others
Chapter 128 - - 128 Amnesiac Captain_1
—————✧✧✧✧—————
What’s going on?
If you wanted to kill someone and take over the ship, you should have said so earlier!
Had you told me earlier, I would have snatched your body too, and we could have enjoyed this together, right?
You had to wait until I had taken over his body before you made your move.
This is practically a setup!
Body-snatching is risky; one must choose carefully.
…
“Barry, Wayne, you’ve done a great job. Keeping such a meticulous plan from me and almost succeeding, too. Is this the surprise you have for me? This perfect plan is beautiful, and having such talented people aboard the Giant Bird makes me truly happy as your captain!” Barely holding back the pain, Duge’s face broke into a genuine smile, “If I really had been killed by you, I would have probably entered hell with a smile on my face…”
Has the captain lost his mind?
He’s been betrayed by us!
He’s dying!
What nonsense is he talking about?
Does he think by doing this he’ll make us feel guilty?
Silly fool…
The first and second mates, as well as all the crew members involved in the mutiny, were so bewildered that no one went forward to finish the job.
Of course, nobody cared about that.
Stabbed in both the chest and abdomen, wounds like those—no one could survive…
But soon, they began to realize something was off.
A normal person would grow weaker as they bled, but their captain seemed to be getting stronger as he spoke, and even the blood gushing out appeared to be slowing.
At the same time.
Before Duge’s unfading personal panel, a new skill flickered into existence.
Don’t hit a smiling person: Your smile has a certain chance of infecting others, causing their mood to become more pleasant.
Is this skill meant to be an auxiliary in growing the “happiness” keyword?
Why isn’t it a hundred percent infectious?
How high is the chance?
It could be one percent, or it could be a hundred percent!
Duge didn’t like uncertainties.
This skill wasn’t even as good as Invincible when Grieving with the sadness keyword.
A keyword can most birth two advanced skills. It looks like one has already been wasted!
…
“Sea Demon, damn you, you maniac, you must have made a deal with the Sea Witch Selma.” Barry’s expression suddenly changed, and in terror, he pointed his knife at Duge, “Kill him, kill him quick, everyone who deals with a Sea Witch ultimately becomes an unreasonable monster, he won’t let us go…”
After that.
Barry swung his blade at Duge.
Duge dodged Barry’s slash and drew his own knife, fending off Barry’s attack.
The recent burst of joy had only healed his injuries; his attributes had hardly increased, but the martial arts movements from the Martial Arts World simulator were still fresh in Duge’s memory, combined with Paul’s original physical abilities.
He was more than capable of fending off Old Barry’s attacks—even having the luxury of pondering what exactly a Sea Demon was.
Following the usual patterns of Western myth, Duge boldly guessed as he repelled Barry with a slash, then retreated two steps and jumped onto a wooden crate on the deck, triumphantly raising his curved blade with a laugh, “That’s right, Barry, I indeed struck a bargain with Selma, and it’s also a surprise for you lot. I traded my useless past memories for immortality, none of you traitors can kill me. After I dispose of you and find the Sea God Scepter, I shall be the future Pirate King…”
Suddenly.
He frowned and dramatically clutched his head, “Damn, what else did I trade…”
Suddenly.
Duge’s expression changed, and he looked up again with a blank expression toward Barry and the others: “Who are you? Why are you on my ship? I am Paul, the captain of the Giant Bird. Why can’t I remember anything else?”
Barry and the others exchanged glances, unsure of what to do.
Duge’s words had revealed many important pieces of information, such as immortality, and his sudden recovery from serious injuries seemed to confirm that this immortality was real.
Could they really kill someone with immortality?
But Paul, possessing immortality, had the power to take down everyone. There was no reason for him to hold back now.
Perhaps, this was their chance to survive…
Wayne and the others cast inquiring glances at Barry.
Barry hesitated a moment, then sheathed his cutlass and asked nervously, “Paul, don’t scare me, I’m your first mate, Barry! Barry Blare, don’t you remember me? Don’t play this kind of joke with us, it’s not funny at all…”
“Barry Blare, I seem to have some impression of that,” Duge’s eyes flashed with caution as he looked at the knife in his hand and suddenly said, “Yes, I remember now, you are my first mate, Barry Blare.”
As soon as these words were spoken,
everyone breathed a sigh of relief in unison.
“Captain, you really lost your memory!” Barry frowned, “I was just joking with you, I’m Barry Sullivan, not Barry Blare. What happened, how could a person lose their memory?”
“Damn, you really had no good intentions, why is there so much blood on me, who knows if you guys wanted to kill me and steal my ship, don’t try to deceive me,” Duge raised his cutlass warily.
Wayne and the others tightened their grips on their weapons again.
“No, this isn’t my blood, I don’t have any wounds on me.” Duge searched his body and furrowed his brows in distress, “Damn it, what exactly happened? Are you really my crew?”
Your injuries healed by themselves, of course there wouldn’t be any wounds!
The tense hearts of the crowd relaxed once again.
Barry returned the cutlass to its sheath and whispered, “Paul, we indeed are your crew. Just now a sea beast suddenly rushed onto the deck, and the blood on you is from our fight with it. Come down, let’s figure out what actually happened!”
Wayne and the others also put away their weapons, as no one wished to fight a person with an undying body.
The trade with the Sea Demon was irreversible, Paul’s lost memories could not come back. A captain with an undying body but no memory, that was clearly to everyone’s advantage.
As long as he doesn’t go looking for that accursed Sea God Scepter, he can forever be the captain of the Giant Bird.
Duge was still wary; he jumped down from the crate, sizing up the few people in front of him.
Suddenly,
Duge laughed, “That’s right, we are indeed from the same ship. Barry, you and I, we smell of the same rum.”
He pointed at the bottles of liquor on the deck and found an excuse for himself by saying, “I probably wouldn’t be drinking with a stranger.”
“Right, there are no enemies here, and you couldn’t have brought the ship here by yourself.” Barry laughed as well, looking at Duge who had put away his cutlass, and let down his guard a bit, “Paul, do you really not remember us at all?”
“I don’t remember a thing,” Duge shook his head in frustration and looked at the people around him with a bewildered gaze, “I only remember my name is Paul, I even forgot how to sail the ship. Barry, what in the world happened?”
“Maybe too much rum, and you hit your head while fighting the sea beast by accident,” Barry suggested, “Maybe we should dock and find a doctor, see if they can help you recover your memory.”
“Sea Beast?” Duge inquired.
“Yes, a humanoid sea beast with a face full of octopus tentacles, probably attracted by the smell of our liquor. None of us managed to defeat it, and it jumped back into the sea,” Barry made up a reason on the spot.
“Paul, the sea beast is not important, you are,” Wayne deftly changed the subject, “I’ve heard of this condition, it’s called amnesia.”
“You are?” Duge looked at him, asking.
“Wayne Pryce, second mate of the Giant Bird,” Wayne said with a smile while pointing at the parrot on his shoulder, “Wendy, that’s its name. Say hello to the captain, Wendy.”
“Hello, Wendy,” Duge greeted the parrot with a smile.
“Hello, captain,” the parrot looked at Duge with terror in its eyes, its voice trembling. The only thought in its mind was, the captain is dead, the ghost is alive, but it couldn’t reveal this secret, otherwise, the ghost would surely kill it…
“Such a cute little thing, but I don’t have time to play with you right now,” Duge said with a troubled smile, pointing to his head, “I need to get my memory back, I hope you can help me too. However, I should take a look at the ship’s log first to confirm whether this ship is really mine.”
Having said this, he walked away from the crowd, intending to leave. But after two steps, he stopped again, “Who will tell me where the captain’s cabin is?”
Barry gave the helmsman a signal with his eyes: “Piero, you go help our poor captain.”
Realizing the intention, the helmsman caught up with Duge’s pace and said, “Captain, let me show you the way. To tell you the truth, I’ve never seen anyone forget where their own room is…”
“Is that funny?” Duge asked.
“Not funny,” Piero replied.
“No worries, laugh if you want to! I don’t mind,” Duge pointed to his head and said with a laugh, “Now, the only thought left in my mind is, life is short, enjoy it while you can. So, Piero, there’s no need to suppress your emotions…”
…
“Barry, did Paul really lose his memory?” Once they were gone, Wayne stood beside Barry and asked in a low voice.
“I don’t know, but I do know that the Sea Demon Selma never makes a losing deal. If she says she’ll take memory, she’ll definitely take it,” Barry’s expression relaxed considerably, “Paul didn’t have an undying body before.”
“Could he become aware of our assassination attempt?” Wayne asked with worry.
“He’ll be suspicious, but there’s no evidence. After all, he doesn’t have any injuries, does he?” Barry shrugged and laughed, “The undying body helped us cover our tracks perfectly. We’re lucky I’m not confident in killing someone who can’t die, and he has no reason to let us go…”
“Paul is dead, the ghost is alive.” Unable to bear seeing its master deceived, the parrot finally blurted out what was on its mind.
“Stupid bird,” Wayne scoffed with a laugh, glanced at the parrot, then suddenly froze, “Barry, does Paul’s loss of memory mean the old him died, and now a new him is alive?”
“Possibly, I will find a chance to test him,” Barry said, “A person pretending to have amnesia is bound to slip up. If he really is pretending, we can just run away after we land. Wayne, while Piero is distracting the captain, remind the rest not to slip up.”
